SUBJECT: Confirmation of Future Career Plans

Thank you, Ms. Morton, for the chance to sit down with you last Friday afternoon and discuss my career objectives and contributions to Universal’s training program. If I am correct, we have agreed on the following matters:

1. Within six months or less, my job title will be changed to Assistant to the Director of Employee Education.

2. My assignments will include all I am now doing; additionally, I will be allowed to sit in on administrative meetings and voice ideas about curriculum plans.

3. My salary will be raised to $26,000 at the time I assume this new title.

4. I’ll be given a car allowance of $75/month to cover trips to outlying centers.

If I’m correct about our agreement, would you sign this memo and return it to me for my files?

Priority and Follow-up on Maintenance Purchase Requisitions

SUBJECT: Priority and Follow-up on Maintenance Purchase Requisitions

A primary goal in Maintenance is to minimize downtime and to keep all equipment operational. To accomplish this goal successfully, we need help from Purchasing–priority treatment and confirmation of requisitions.

Out of approximately 300 requisitions I submit per month, only about 30 percent are confirmed. I realize, of course, that Purchasing has a tremendous work load and has difficulty distinguishing between emergency and “normal” orders. And, of course, I know some of the replacement parts we order on short notice can’t be confirmed. I do, however, try to keep these replacement parts in supply to avoid this rush situation. Also, non-confirmation on other, standard requisitions has become a real problem in relation to productivity, downtime, and cost of repair and replacement parts via air freight.

Would you let Purchasing know of this problem and suggest maintenance requisitions get first priority? Additionally, we’d like follow-up confirmations on promised shipping dates. I’ve attached a copy of our requisition log from 3/1/– to 5/30/– so you can note which ones have not yet been confirmed.

Please let me know how these requisitions will be handled in the future.

Realizing everything you’ve been through these past few months, David, we’ve decided to approve your request for a two-month leave of absence. Needless to say, it won’t be easy without you around here, but we are willing to make the added investment in you.

So, take off at 5:30 today and we’ll see you in two months. I wish you the best.

Request for Approval to Delay Release of Adventures in Science Text

SUBJECT:  Request for Approval to Delay Release of Adventures in Science Text

With your approval, I would like to delay the release of Brian Anderson’s Adventures in Science text until next fall.  He hoped to complete the changes to his manuscript by next month, but has informed me he cannot meet the deadline if he adds sections on the new information about greenhouse gasses. This delay will require us to adjust our marketing plans, and take on one more book in our already crowded fall line-up.
